Introducing Black Squares DB4E’s Chess Program

Black Squares is committed to increasing access to the chess world for Black youth and developing Black chess culture within the sport.

The Dream Builders 4 Equity (DB4E) team is excited to announce the launch of Black Squares, a DB4E chess program led by Justus Williams.

Justus Williams is one of the sport's most exciting talents. Justus, originally from the Bronx, NY, has been highlighted for his chess skills in major outlets such as the New York Times, Brooklyn Castle, a 2012 documentary, and TMZ. Justus was also featured in a Cadillac commercial, which showcased prodigies from various fields.

Justus and Black Squares will offer a range of opportunities for St. Louis City youth to engage with chess. Black Squares will serve ages 6-18, and our programming options include an afterschool program, group lessons and play, and weekend tournaments held in our Chess Park (coming in 2021!)
